RACE REPORT
FDNY vs NYPD Five Miler
3/10/2017
Central Park, NYC
Members of both agencies persevered through biting cold to compete in the 40th anniversary of this important race. Congrats to Tim Clarke (E3) for a first place finish in 28:18. E95/L36 won this fastest firehouse competition, rebuffing a strong effort by E54/L4. In the major competition of fastest job, I'm sorry to report that the FDNY had to forfeit; we did not field the 100 runners required to compete. Next year, we'll have to shoot for a better turn-out. Thanks as always to the volunteers from E37/L40 for the Bloody Marys, hot-dogs, and convivial after-after-party at Ryan's Daughter.
UPCOMING LOCAL RACES
NYC Half Marathon After-party
3/19/17
Downtown
Next Sunday, many of our members are running the NYC Half Marathon or the NYC Firefighter Stairclimb (http://www.nycfirefighterclimb.com/). Since we're all in the same neighborhood, the members of B11 who are coordinating the Stairclimb have graciously offered to share their after-party. After the Half, make an easy five minute walk from the finish area to join us at The Irish American Pub (17 John Street). Party officially starts at 12:30, but you'll certainly be welcome earlier.

Four for Fahey
5/25/2017
Van Cortlandt Park, NY
B19 is coordinating the first annual race honoring Michael Fahey. Proceeds from the day will be directed toward Building for America's Bravest, an organization focused on supporting and building homes for seriously injured veterans. This will be a 4 mile race, with the option to run a 2 x 2 mile relay. The course will consist of 2 laps of "the flats" and up into the smaller hills, beginning and ending near the Van Cortlandt House Museum, just north of W.242nd St. Awards will be presented to the top 3 overall finishers, top 3 firehouse teams, top 3 clydesdales (225 lbs+), top 3 masters (40 yrs+), the first firefighter from each boro, and the top 3 duos in the 2x2 relay. Local breweries will be providing refreshments for attendees, and food will be provided. Additional details, including info on the post-race gathering will be posted in the coming weeks. See facebook.com/4forfahy.
MARATHON UPDATES
Boston Marathon
4/17/2017
Boston, MA
It's last minute, but the Boston Fire Department found one more entry for us. The downside: it's only 5 weeks away, you need to make the Expo on Easter Sunday, and it's a little pricey ($455). The upside: you get to run Boston and nobody really cares how fast you are. First come, first serve by e-mail to me.
NYC Marathon
11/5/2017
NYC, NY
Lottery results are out and of course many people were denied. Regarding entry, there is nothing more to do until early September, when the NYRR begin to work with us. I understand that this is not ideal for training schedules, but we can't press our luck with the NYRR. Additional updates will come via this e-mail as they develop.
Stay safe and run fast,
